The new antifungals—safe and effective

The increased incidence of fungal infections, especially invasive fungal disease caused by both endemic and opportunistic fungal infections, shows no sign of decline or leveling off. The reasons include the widespread occurrence of immunosuppressive diseases such as AIDS, and the growing use of immunosuppressive drugs and chemotherapeutic agents to treat diseases such as cancer and autoimmune disorders and to ensure the success of organ and bone marrow transplantation and other cellular therapies.
